>Well I got my hands on the presskit, but I wont be reading any of the press notes until I see the movie. And I'm a bit nervous about it. Sam can do no wrong ass far as Im concerned, but I am worried about a few aspects of Spiderman-The Movie. 1. First off the hero and villain are in full head masks. There's a fine line between comic book cool (as in the first Batman film) and comic camp as in the Batman TV series. The Goblin's head piece and costume tread dangerously close to Power Ranger territory. Are you telling me that we are going to hear the Goblin speak, but we are not going to see his gaping Evil Dead style mouth move...? Not seeing his mouth at least somewhat articulate his words only brings attention to the fact that he's wearing a costume. 2. I'm not too crazy about seeing an animated Spidey swinging around NYC. From what I can see in the ad's and trailers they use lots of computer animation for those effects and it just looks too cartoony. At least in the Superman movies, as dated as they look today, there was an actual actor "flying" around. As sophsitcted as it may be and look, I feel cheated when I see/detect a "digital stuntman". 3. As a New Yorker in particular, I'm curious as to how the World Trade Center will be presented. Once featured prominently, shots of the WTC have mostly been edited out. I recall when seeing Star Trek 4, there was a dedication to the lost crew of the Challenger space shuttle. A similar dedication at the beginning of Spiderman would be in order. Also there should/should have been a touching yet, proud shot of Spidey on or swinging around the WTC. Perhaps ending the movie with a shot like that (tastefully done of course) could serve as an act of defiance in the wake of the tragedy and show the world that our spirit still stands tall. Given the large international audience this film will have, I hope the filmmakers take advantage of it and make a statement. |
